Garrard 4-fer Leads Southwold to 10 Wicket Win

Edward Garrard took 4/11 as Diss folded for 48 before the openers again knocked the runs off – the second successive week that feat has been achieved. The result maintains their unbeaten run in 2015 and stretches their lead at the top of Division 5E to 14 points, with one to play.

Diss won the toss and elected to bat first and made a confident start before Garrard found his length and movement to remove the opening batsmen – Skilleter and Taylor. At the other end, Jason Hall made life difficult for the batsmen, whilst Garrard quickly added Gudde and Heaton to his list before captain Sam Booker picked up his 100th Southwold wicket, as he bowled Williamson. Terry Booker got in on the act with 2/8 before Sam Booker collected his 101st wicket as only Newman (18*) provided any resistance with the slide continuing – Jake Fuller plucking a catch off his own bowling to wrap up Diss’s efforts two short of a half century.

In reply the Southwold opening pair of Alex Britten and Ezra Fuller were circumspect at start before finding the boundary with more ease, Fuller’s crunching pull shot that raced for four in front of square the pick of the boundaries. Youngster Williamson impressed with 0/16 off her five overs but neither she nor her teammates could find the breakthrough as Britten (29*) pulled the winning runs through midwicket in the 12th over, Fuller not out on 14 at the other end.
